Turning to projects, Patrick is keen to tell us about some recently completed homes that showcase the best of MBC’ s capabilities.“ We worked on an unusual project for a client who wanted to redevelop an original 1960s fishing cabin on the Frying Pan River,” he explains.“ As the cabin had been added to on three separate occasions, it was a mismatch of styles and there were several permitting limitations requiring it to remain within its existing footprint. After 18 months of permitting negotiations, the owner’ s design team, made up of architects, land planners, landscape architects, and civil engineers, was able to get the project approved.
“ The client intended to keep and remodel the original cabin, but we were forced to change plans as we discovered that the foundation of the cabin was cracked in several places. We reviewed the options with the client and eventually decided to replace the cabin rather than repair the foundations due to the condition.
“ Despite early unforeseen changes, the remodeling and rebuilding process was somewhat straightforward, and the cabin is now complete with new wiring, heating, insulation, and windows. We’ ve also installed solar and storage batteries to ensure the home is not only energy efficient today, but suitable for renewable power moving forward.”
Project highlights
Patrick next highlights a renovation project in Snowmass Creek that also came with unique challenges.“ This project was a 2500-square-foot addition to a large existing riverfront property,” he says.“ This required extensive excavation, stabilization, soil nailing, temporary shoring, and even underpinning of the existing foundations.
