Energy-efficient approach
Energy efficiency is of particular importance to Lingenfelter Luxury and especially to Adam, due to his firsthand experience with exorbitant utility bills.“ Given the intense heat brought on by the Texan sun, electricity bills can be very expensive. When we first moved here, we bought a home for which the first monthly electricity bill was $ 700. This was a stark contrast to the approximate $ 70 bills I was accustomed to in Washington state. As summer arrived, the bills kept escalating, leading me to install solar screens on the house’ s old windows, ultimately halving our bills. This made us realize that solar heat gains are a much bigger deal in Texas than in Washington, where the climate is milder. In Texas, temperature differentials can be extreme, ranging from 15-to-20 degrees in winter and reaching 100 degrees in the summer. Therefore, homes need to be significantly more energy efficient than average in order to avoid excessively high energy costs.
“ Constructing our energy-efficient family home in Texas was the first project we completed, even before starting work for our company. The new home had the exact same square footage as our previous house, yet our energy expenses dwindled to an average of $ 120 monthly from the initial $ 700 upon relocating to Texas. This experience convinced me that prioritizing energy efficiency is paramount to being a good builder. The cost difference is not substantial when it comes to upgrading to a much more energy efficient home. Typically, the investment required for most homes to achieve a high level of energy efficiency ranges from $ 30,000 to $ 50,000. When this expense is spread out over monthly payments, the additional cost per month is small in comparison to the resulting monthly savings on energy bills, making it a no-brainer,” Adam explains.
Lingenfelter Luxury’ s energy efficient approach is implemented across a wide variety of projects, including collaborations with its sister company Cana Capital( Cana). Adam is a part owner of this land development business, and both companies are working together on a development called Eagle Ridge.“ As a 20 percent stakeholder in the company, we partner with Cana in the development of various neighborhoods. In the last few years, we have completed four-to-five developments together, and we are currently starting another one in Argyle, Texas. Our role in these ventures is to construct some of the homes within these neighborhoods, which Cana predominantly sells to custom home builders. Despite this, Cana offers clients the flexibility to select any builder they prefer, resulting in us building some homes alongside four-to-six other builders within the same neighborhood. For instance, our ongoing project, Eagle Ridge, involves about nine builders in a 38-lot community situated in Bartonville, Texas,” he ends.
