“ We’ re fortunate to operate in a diverse market where a variety of architectural styles can coexist with the natural setting – urban, desert and mountain environments,” introduces Kurt.“ Whenever the market allows, I focus on projects that speak to me personally; they become an expression of who I am. Modern architecture is where we trend, though the design is often more influenced by its immediate surroundings than by any specific style. Reno was slower to adopt modern design trends, so it has been a priority for me to push form and style, to differentiate our work from that of the preceding generation and much of our competition.”
Born and raised in Reno, Nevada, Kurt studied construction management at
Colorado State University, before joining a large commercial contractor in the Denver Metro area for seven years.“ During that time, I built a range of public works projects including schools, fire stations and university buildings, alongside private negotiated work in the medical sector. I moved back to Reno and founded Realm in 2012, which I’ ve been operating ever since.” With a diverse range of project types, Realm employs multiple field superintendents and purposefully matches the right staff for each project, including its team of external consultants.
Design driven
Furthermore, the company typically builds around five custom homes per year. Kurt elaborates:“ For me, it’ s never been about being the biggest home builder in Reno. I want to work on projects that inspire me, and with clients we genuinely connect
