On the 24th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, Building Homes for Heroes and Hillwood Communities unveiled a new mortgage-free house, built by Highland Homes, for one of the most decorated women veterans in American history, Retired Command Sgt. Maj. Gretchen Evans, and her family.
A highly accomplished veteran with numerous honors, including the 2022 ESPN ESPY Pat Tillman Award for Service, and induction into both the U. S. Army Women’ s Hall of Fame and the U. S. Veteran Hall of Fame, Command Sgt. Maj. Evans is also a recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and many other military awards and commendations.
