for the craft and for the people who do that work every day. It also helped me understand where I could contribute most. I gravitated toward the operational side of the firm, and during high school I took on our health, safety, and illness prevention planning. After college I joined full time, stepping into a project management role that drew on everything I’ d absorbed over the years. I’ ve worked alongside many of the same people since I was 14. That continuity means everything in this industry.”
For Parker and Beth, Cody’ s presence is both a professional asset and a personal affirmation of everything the firm was built to be.
“ We have always been a family company,” Parker reflects.“ Some family you’ re born with. Some you get to choose along the way. We are lucky to be a mix of both.” the projects that require not just skilled hands, but seasoned architects and craftspeople who understand the responsibility of what they’ re touching.”
Parker adds:“ There’ s a particular kind of passion required for this work. You have to genuinely love the architecture- its history, its logic, its character. We do. That’ s no secret within the industry, and it’ s why architects and institutions with architecturally significant properties consistently seek us out.”
The next generation
The arrival of Cody Cluchey into a full-time role at West Coast GBC two years ago marked a meaningful new chapter. His history with the firm, however, stretches back to adolescence.
“ I started as a laborer at 14, waking up with Parker at 5am and working ten-to-12-hour days on job sites in Rancho Santa Fe,” Cody recalls.“ That time in the field gave me a deep respect
Looking ahead
As West Coast GBC moves further into its third decade, the firm’ s ambitions remain characteristically focused: not bigger, but better. The measure of success is not a larger project count, but a deeper quality of work and experience at every level.
“ 2026 is about finishing what we have in motion with the care and excellence our clients deserve,” Beth says.“ We have three extraordinary projects underway, and we want those clients to step into their completed homes with a sense of excitement, gratitude, and joy about the life ahead of them.”
“ The scale and structure of this firm is intentional,” Parker adds.“ It allows us to remain genuinely close to every project and every client. We’ re not going to compromise that. What we will do is continue investing in our people and in the craft.”
“ With the team we have right now, we’ re set up to do some of the best work of our careers,” Cody says.“ That’ s what drives me every day.” ■
