Growing up in Indian Hill and traveling throughout Europe, Graeme found early inspiration in architecture far from home.“ What I love about Europe is half of the buildings over there are older than our country and they are built in a way that they are not going anywhere anytime soon.”
That perspective continues to drive the firm’ s design work, even as homeowners chase the latest layouts and amenities.“ What I think is important is building things in a way that will last a long time. There is something to be said about a building you like that is 200 years old. Whatever style
it is, it is timeless architecture, because two centuries later, it still looks good.”
The homes that many clients envision have not changed nearly as much as the economics behind them. As construction costs have climbed, budgets that once would have supported substantial projects no longer stretch as far.“ The cost of construction just keeps going up. Since Covid, it has probably almost doubled in the last six years. The thing that is wild to me is I get at least a call a week from someone who says,‘ I want to build a new house in Indian Hill and I have got two or three million dollars to spend.’ I must admit to them that‘ I do not know if I can build you a house for two or three million, that satisfies your desired program, whether that be size, style, or features),’ which is a crazy thing to say.”
